Interpreting

If you are planning to organize any event that will involve foreign partners or guests, you would need interpretation services for good communication and understanding.

There are two basic types of interpretation: consecutive and simultaneous.

What type of interpretation do you need?

We are sure: You must have thought that we will start explaining to you in details the features of each type of interpretation, the more so that we, as professionals, perfectly know all kinds of interpretation and thoroughly know all their nuances. But do you really need to spend your precious time clarifying these features?

Everything is much simpler: You just give us a call or send an e-mail and briefly describe what event you are planning. This is enough for us to assess the specifics of the event and identify the most suitable type of interpretation for you, while you get all the information you need.

But if you have a couple of minutes, we will give you tips to enable you orient yourself in the subject of interpretation and specify your order.

Each type of interpretation is optimal for a particular nature of an event.

Consecutive interpreting

This is a type of interpretation, in which the person, whose words are being translated, speaks with logical pauses. During these pauses, the interpreter translates what has been just said by the source-language speaker.
This is the most mobile type of interpretation that can be performed on the go. It is best suited for such events as:

  • Business negotiations (in an office, at an exhibition);
  • Negotiations on the phone or through audio conference;
  • Press conferences, presentations, briefings;
  • Seminars, round tables, meetings involving small number of participants;
  • Festivities, receptions;
  • Excursions for foreign visitors, escorting of delegations;
  • Court hearings, any notarial acts involving foreign nationals;
  • Activities on installation and adjustment of equipment, with the participation of foreign experts.

Advantages and disadvantages of consecutive interpretation as compared to simultaneous interpretation

Advantages:

  • Mobility. It can be performed anywhere, even remotely, or in motion, for example, during visits to industrial sites;
  • Efficiency. It does not require any technical equipment and is usually performed by one qualified interpreter;
  • Chance to deliberate during pauses before your further speech or before responding to the words of the source-language speaker.
  • Disadvantages:
  • Duration. An event can take more time due to pauses in translation;
  • Limitations on the number of languages. This interpretation is usually done only in one foreign language;
  • Limitations on the number of participants.

Simultaneous interpretation

An interpreter carries out this interpretation at the same time (synchronously) with the source-language speaker, without pauses or delays. The interpreter perceives what is being spoken by ear and then reproduces the meaning of words spoken into another language.
Simultaneous interpretation is the best option for large-scale events such as:

  • International congresses, conferences, symposia, forums, involving many participants;
  • Meeting of shareholders of large international corporations.

Advantages and disadvantages of a simultaneous interpretation as compared to consecutive interpretation

Advantages:

  • Saves time by about half compared to consecutive interpretation due to the absence of pauses;
  • Ability to translate simultaneously into several languages;
  • Control of the audience. The speaker speaks without pauses, which helps to better retain the attention of the audience, and feel the mood and reaction of the audience;
  • Convenience for participants who know several languages: many participants of events of this level speak foreign languages and prefer to listen to the source-language speaker. They are irritated by frequent pauses prevalent in consecutive interpretation;
  • Increase in the prestige of the event.

Disadvantages:

  • High cost. Payment for facilities, equipped with special equipment (booths, apparatus, cables, headphones) is required, while the services of simultaneous interpreters are much more expensive. In addition, there is need to involve at least two or three simultaneous interpreters who have equal knowledge in the theme of the event, due to the high psychophysiological burden on them;
  • The probability of a higher level of information loss. When the source-language speaker is speaking very fast, the possibility of losing the meaning of what is said in real time is greater than in consecutive interpretation.

Knowing the features, advantages and disadvantages of the main types of interpretation, and the nature of the planned event, you can more clearly articulate your order and we will be able to find for you interpreters suitable for the nature and theme of your event.
